From this Friday (1 July 2022), nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists and physiotherapists working in GP practices or in hospitals will be able to issue and sign fitness for work certificates in just the same way that GPs can. This change follows on from the digitalisation of fitness for work certificates on 6 April 2022. It is intended to free up GP time for patient consultations and to simplify and streamline the process of obtaining fitness for work certificates for the benefit of patients, employers and the NHS alike. Regulations introducing this change were produced on 10 June 2022. They apply to England, Scotland and Wales.
